K. Jairaj, IAS (retd)

K Jairaj is a member of the 1976 batch of the Indian Administrative Service and most recently retired as the Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka. He has served as the Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department; Managing Director, Bangalore International Airport Ltd.; Managing Director, Karnataka Power Corp. Ltd.; Managing Director, Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation; Senior Public Sector Management Specialist at the World Bank among other key roles.
Jairaj has a distinguished record of expertise in Infrastructure, Energy, and Urban Development. He is credited with turnarounds of the state energy sector as Managing Director, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL); Managing Director of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC); Managing Director; State Industries Corporation (KSIDC).
He has distinguished academic record with master’s degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, MPA from Princeton University and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the Kennedy School, Harvard University where he was a Mason fellow.
Jairaj is an active participant in the management movement. He has been President of Bangalore Management Association (BMA). He served as President of the All India Management Association (AIMA) 1996-97, the first IAS officer to head this institution. The centre for Public Governance at AIMA has been set up at his initiative. The AIMA Public Service Excellence Awards were instituted during his tenure as President.
Dr. Sudhakar Varanasi

Dr. Varanasi come to Emergent from Namma Bengaluru organization. Prior to that Dr. Varanasi worked with Satyam Computer Services Limited at senior levels for a decade and, before leaving Satyam. He has architected and executed the epoch making EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute) project. Dr. Varanasi acquired a Masters degree in science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, went on to do a doctoral in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; stayed to teach and research for a decade in the same institute before starting to explore the world of business and corporations.
Ms. Priya Dasgupta
Director, Strategic Initiatives, IISE/Emergent Institute,
Priya Dasgupta has over seven years of experience in technology, management consulting and business development for the corporate sector and for social enterprises working with the rural and urban poor.
Priya’s experience at the BoP includes fund management and advisory services for microfinance in Africa, enterprise creation for the informal waste sector in the Philippines, Brazil and Peru, design and implementation of a pilot Ultra Poor Initiative with the largest tribal group in India, design and implementation of a Ranking System for Indigenous Groups in the Latin America and Caribbean region among others.
Priya holds an undergraduate degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from University of Pune and an MBA from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management.
B. S. Krishnamurthy
Administrative Officer, IISE/Emergent Institute, Bengaluru.
BS Krishnamurthy started his career with Public Works Department, Govt. of Karnataka and then moved to the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) in its ‘Kalinadi Hydro Electric Project’. He later served in KPCL’s Head Office, and worked with top executives and different Managing Directors / IAS Officers as Personal Secretary. On Deputation from KPCL, Krishnamurthy served in BBMP, KSRTC, BIAL, Karnataka Govt. Secretariat and in KSIIDC as Executive Secretary to the Chief Executive. After attaining retirement, following a career of 30 years of service to the State Government of Karnataka, Krishnamurthy joined the Emergent Institute to manage the important portfolio of back-end office administration.
