Our Story
With the untimely passing of Professor C.K. Prahalad in 2010, we sought to both honor his past contributions and legacy, and also continue to extend and expand his work through the creation of the Emergent Institute (formerly known as the Indian Institute for Sustainable Enterprise (IISE)) in Bangalore, India.
In April 2011, the principals for this initiative were convened by the Educational Trust of India LLC (ETI) to discuss the vision and strategy for the new Institute. ETI is a collaborative venture involving individuals and institutions to further higher education exchanges between the US and India. ETI is piloting several projects in India, including the creation of the Institute.
The fundamental premise driving this is that the world is on an unsustainable path and that management education as currently taught and studied, is unprepared to address this. India, for many reasons, represents the opportunity and challenge we face in the coming decades. A brand-new, independent, globally-oriented institution based in India is now needed to create the disruptive changes necessary for a more sustainable world.
A decision was made to proceed with the creation of the new Institute, and the Principals convened again in August 2011 to chart its course. The new Institute is co-located with Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology on a brand-new 10-acre campus, Kanakapura Road, Bengaluru.
